An Ode to our Rebels from Bud Zegel

I wanted to share "an ode" that was created by Mr Zegel.

According to your faith will it be done to you

Faith is a belief you cannot see

Coach Clayton will say, “This is bigger than me”

He’s led you this far - it’s been quite a run

Who would believe you’re 13 and one

"We Believe!!” is the cry we’ve shouted all year

I think it all started when McCallie was here

Miracles still happen – We saw it that night

We’re proud of the way you finished the fight

We’ve been there each night when you’ve taken the field

Few yards or points would this great defense yield

JD -Timmy -Taylor - Ben -Nick and Cole

Always found ways to plug up the hole

The Webb was spread out by Coach Donnie’s boys

The Hunters and Jonny made lots of noise

The hand-me-down backs turned out pretty good

We all had the faith and knew that they would

Ramsey, Eric, Jamaul and the twins

All had a big part in those 13 wins

But without the points on our side of the ball

We wouldn’t be here - this late in the Fall

Isaiah and Mark and Andrew and Connor

We love what you’ve done and are here to honor

You did a great job learning the O’s and the X’s

And how ‘bout that man we all call Texas

Alex and Keylo were Thunder and Lightning

At times their runs could be quite frightening

Nothing was better than Nichols to Eaton

Or a catch made by Maurer - the defense he’s beaten’

The past is the past – we’ve had a great year

It ain’t over yet - that’s why we are here

Back in the Boro – some will remember

A cry went out, “We’ll be here in December!”

So far you fulfilled you part of the deal

The victory is yours to go out and seal

The Rebels were there back in ‘O 4

But came up short, we lost that war

Not this year we say our heart

Go out tomorrow and do your part

This is the word - Go out and have fun

When it is over the Prize you’ll have won

Franklin Rebels – you make us so very proud

We’ll all be there - shoutin’ pretty loud

This is your time –You’re the chosen few

According to your faith will it be done to you!

Congratulations to the 2008 Rebels for their INCREDIBLE season.

Franklin had only one loss in the regular season and 1 loss in the State Championship Game vs Oakland.

Many do not realize what it takes to have a successful program in athletics today. It needs commitment and support from not only the players but the staff and the schools and the parents. Rebels should be PROUD of the season they have had. The memories can never be taken away. Comraderie and Bonds and people that have bonded make this a Championship season as well.
You, as young men have stepped up and met the task of some of lifes challenges. You have matured as the season went on.Sopomores, Juniors have looked up to your leadership as Seniors< and it is something they can take from you for next season.

~ BELIEVE~

Ok Rebel Fans.....Here we are coming up on one of the most exciting weekends in Rebel Football that EVERYONE has dreamed about.
First of all, Take time out to CONGRATULATE a Rebel on all the accomplishments they have taken on and won.I cannot think of one specific, single item to say..."This is what did it...this is what lit the fire.." ..there were sooo many.
If there was any advice we could give our team, I think Coach Clayton said it well.. "MAINTAIN THE FOCUS "If we can start with that, we will be the WINNING team this Saturday..There is NO BETTER COMPLETE team than this years Rebel team...Yes I said it, and will argue that many times over.
MANY times this season we have heard....Our Defense is young, and undersized, We dont have as much depth, We have folded in the BIG game...Brentwood this, Independence that, Ravenwood this...Well guess where they are?
I read an article in a local publication...Our players were quoted as " There are no single hero's on our team, we all do our job, we RELY on each other.." As a coach or a parent or a fan, how could you not want a team with that mentality? There we go..ANOTHER area to be proud of for this team. Congratulations again, for possessing the maturity of a Champion.
Ok lets add it up...what are the keys to a championship win on Saturday?
1) Maintain the Focus
2) BELIEVE in yourself
3) BELIEVE in your teammates
4) BELIEVE in your Coaches
5) BELIEVE that on every single play, you will win that battle one play at a time.
You will maintain that block, you will wrap up on that tackle, you will stay on your assignment, you will cover your man, you will run harder for that extra yard, you will KNOW where that First down is, you will see the ball into your hands and catch it no matter the circumstance, you will hold on and protect that ball, you will be alert and know the snap count, you will continue until you hear that whistle, you will play your game....you will PLAY YOUR GAME.
6)BELIEVE that you will give 110% to reach your goal.
and finally BELIEVE..
.....At the end of that game, whether you hoist the Gold ball or the Silver ball...We as parents and fans and a great county and community...will be there to back you and CELEBRATE a Great Season and a team full of Winners on the field and off. For if it came down to Teamwork, Leadership, Maturity and work ethic..You would have already won without playing the game.
Congratulations 2008 Rebels..Seize the OPPORTUNITY...you deserve it!

GO REBELS!!

~State Championship Berth ~

Congratulations to Franklin in their HUGE Victory over White Station.
Just when you think you have praised and congratulated everyone on accomplishments ,tasks, or plays, that they have done, each week it just gets better and better.
I think I can speak for most parents when I say.."No Matter how this season had been played out, we, as parents, couldnt have been more proud of our sons who have grown into men over this last year."
Once again it was a team effort on both sides of the ball. I have to say, I cannot honestly say one outplayed the other. From Offense and Defense,Special teams efforts, the Rebels flat out got it done.
For the Defense to stop a high scoring explosive Offense in the Spartans, to the Rebel Offense pounding 35 points on a stout Defense that has only rendered an average of 9 points to their opponents over their last few games. We were the team we needed to be.
We HAVE to be even BETTER this final game. This is what you have been playing for.
Be prepared for the BIGGEST battle of your Career.

GO REBELS!

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all you Rebels fans.
To the Players, the trainers, the cheerleaders, the Coaches, the band , and all the parents.
We have lots to be thankful for.But relating to this team , we can be thankful that we have come as far as we have, so far, with very few injuries. We have watched this team mature and get better and better each week.
We have great parents that help out week after week.
We have great coaches that keep our team in tact and in place.

We have watched some of the best High School Football this season and watched the Seniors take charge and control their Destiny.

We are headed for the Semi-finals against a very good opponent. We are fortunate to have them in OUR HOUSE!

Have a great Thanksgiving and Lets get ready for some Football the day after!!
Come LOUD....Come PROUD!!!!!! GO REBELS!!!

Brentwood....We have been waiting for this Rematch

It was probably one of the coldest nights we have had all year. Game time was calling for temperatures down to 19 degrees.Cold for the fans of Brentwood, but the coldest of temperatures would yield to the FIRE in the hearts of all the players and fans for visiting Franklin.
You see, nothing would stoke the fires more, than a single loss to this big rivalry on October 3rd. Losing to these Bruins in the final minutes of a game that the Rebels should have won. Their ONLY loss in the season of a blood, sweat , and tears season. The Rebels needed to "even" the score, especially if they were to continue in their playoff lives.
As predicted, this game came down to which Defense was going to stop the others Offense.
Brentwood has been one of the leagues Premier teams, and after knocking off Franklin in October, They were siiting on top of the region waving the crown, waiting week after week, hoping that someone else could break the will of this Franklin team, otherwise they would have to see them again in the playoffs.
Franklin kept their focus and waited for this revenge. After a hard fought game, and missing an extra point early in the game, 7-6 would be given to Brentwood.
In the fourth quarter, with 1:11 left in the game, a handoff to Alex Ford that would go to his favorite side, off the left tackle, where the line opened a hole big enough for a truck to go through. Touchdown REBELS!
Nichols would go for two with a pass to Elrod for the 14-7 lead.
With close to a minute left, Franklins Defense would make a statement after a botched kick gave Brentwood good field position.Hunter Howard was playing possessed, he was around the ball on every play.
Great job Defense, and Congratulations Rebels for A Great Playoff win and avenged win against a very good Brentwood team.

VICTORY IS SWEET.

Round 2 -vs- Hendersonville Commandos 48-14

The hype for this match-up had been heating up for a week. Although Franklin didnt play HHS in the regular season, it was the Commandos who knocked Franklins ride in a playoff run a couple of years ago.
HHS was the number one seed in their division, most recently being the only playoff team not to fall to a Williamson County team last week. Hendersonville knocked off Ravenwood last week in a hard fought game.
The Rebels would make the trip up to Sumner County to face the Commandos in their hostile environment.
HHS has a talented team, featuring a very talented player that has been proven off and on the field.
Franklin came out slow and methodical, as we gained yards and completed a couple of short passes.Failing to score on the first two drives, we still showed we could pound the ball and move the chains.
The Rebels defense was all over the place and attacking Hendersonvilles offense from every angle.
Franklin finally scored after having good field position. This was the match that lit the fuse.Franklin would continue to come out and pound the ball and would open up holes for long runs. Alex Ford would end up with just under 200 yards for the night. Keylo would have a great game, and the outstanding speed of Sean Dye....a new force to be reckoned with. With a key pass to Jamaul Starnes for a td, the rebels would rack up 28 points before the half.
The defense blanking the Commandos until a fake field goal with seconds left in the half would render a Hendersonville touchdown .
Half time mustve been a motivational seek and destroy, as the Rebels came out to finish up the Commandos 48-14...
Centennial in the meantime was getting beat so Franklin would be awarded their wish of getting a rematch to their cross county rivalry...Brentwood, their only loss in the 2008 season. Many think that Franklin shouldnt have lost that game. Either way, it should be THE GAME next week on the 21st at Brentwood. Great Job to the Rebels and Good Luck.

Ummmmm Mr B...Can you spell....O-W-N-E-D !

Playoff Win a "Monumental" Game

The playoff win against Hunters Lane proved to be a very special game to Coach Clayton.
If his Rebels were to go on and win this game....He as a High School football coach would celebrate his 200th win.
Coach Clayton kept it to himself because he didnt want to put any more pressure on his young men than they needed. He wanted them to focus primarily on the game and the execution of the game plan for the week.
Congratulations Coach Clayton...a milestone that is very impressive!

Go Rebels

Festivities

Round 1 -vs- Hunters Lane 31-0

The Rebels came out swinging Friday night, on a game that they knew they had to win if they wanted to keep their Quest alive.
Hunters Lane is a very very good football team that plays physical football.Their defense has proved over the last few years that they use their "D" to win games.
Franklin eliminated the Warriors last year in postseason play but could we do it again?
The Warriors made it known that they wanted revenge. They proved it in a pre season scrimmage where they came in and knocked the Rebels around.
Friday was a night where the Rebels squished any thoughts of the Warriors playing any more of the remaining 2008 playoff games. Franklins defense came in and stopped EVERYTHING Hunters Lane had in their playbook.
The icing on the cake was that Franklins Defense did not even allow the Warriors the satisfaction to score. The Offense pounded the ball down their throats and Graham and company had a good mix of arsenal to throw at them.

Congratulations to the Rebels on a fantastic first round win. Stay focused! Next up the number one seed from Region 5..Hendersonville.

Playoffs

Its been a quick season for some of us as Senior parents, and a long season for some of the players on the team but the common goal is what lies before us.The Playoffs.
This is what we play for. As Coach Clayton has said..."The first ten games were exibition games"
Exibition Games? We as parents have seen some of the best games we thought we would have ever seen, this year. We have sprouted new gray hairs over a few of these games. But Coach Clayton couldnt have said it better.
Everything this team has worked for since January, the time and hours spent in the weight room and Spring workouts has prepared us for the new season, the extended season we know as THE PLAYOFFS .
It will be a test. The teams that are "IN" have talent. They know how to win. There has been alot of talk throughout the region about the Franklin Rebels. Something that doesnt mean anything. If it did, we wouldnt play the game on the field. From this point on, we control our destiny. Here comes the training that our coaches cannot prepare our players for....the mental aspect of the game. How easy it would be if we could take a pill or read a book that would automatically prepare us for it. The mind IS a powerful thing.
Lets support our Rebels in everything that we possibly can. We will take this one game at a time. Starting off friday with a very good Hunter's Lane team that will be seeking revenge from last years playoffs.
We need to be loud in the stands..we need to show our opponents what a great fan base we have. There will be a ton of Media people at the game. Lets be heard!!!

GO REBELS!!!!!!

Centennial

Its a game that has been talked about since early in the season. Mostly by Centennial fans stating that 2008 was "Their year" They had the team of "Destiny" that would come into our house on a night (Halloween) where anything could happen. A night that would end the 12 year streak of Franklin beating the Cougars.Somebody forgot to tell Franklin.
The Rebels came out strong and drove the ball down the field to go up 7-0 on a long pounding drive.
Franklin would continue to stop the speed and the playmaking of QB Chaz Scales.
After a couple of "Fluke " plays that were likely to be seen on blooper tapes around the world, it was tied at 14 going into the half.
Just like so many games this season,Coach Webb had his defense step up into the second half. He stunted, he blitzed, and the defense contained the Cats of Centennial.
The offense went to work. The line opened up holes for Ford and Lee for big gains.

It was in the history books at the end of the final whistle. Franklin 35 Centennial 14.

Random Rebels

Captains for Dickson County
Graham Nichols
Troy Roan

Rebels Show No Mercy

Dickson County came to Howard Gamble stadium with nothing to lose but their pride. After two stalled opening drives and going behind 7-0, Franklin showed they had a little bit of Pride themselves. The Rebels went on to win 42-7. Their defense had enough and they banded together to wrap up on their tackles, contain the QB , and swarm to the ball with speed.
They said they had won this for Eric, the very talented Eric Brown , who had went down with an injury right before halftime.
The Rebels looked like they were fine tuning, ready to make their playoff run. The offense was clicking, the defense was stingy and maybe a few more tightening of the screws we will be primed for the Quest.
Physically we have shown up. Now the most complicated..The mental aspect.
Can the Rebels focus at the task at hand ? I can think of a lot of reasons why they should. They will be tested from here on out.
Go Rebels...We want State o8 ...

Rebels Tame the Lions at Columbia

On another wet, rainy night, Franklin traveled down to Columbia to the "Lions den"
Columbia , a good team that has had some tough breaks this season, would have liked nothing more than to take down the Rebels on their Senior night. For the fans that came out, it would have been worth sitting in the cold rain. Most fans were at home watching the game on TV30 Thursday night football. But once again, the Rebels were not going to blemish their perfect record on away games.
The rebels came out fast scoring right away after a long run from scrimmage by Junior Alex Ford. Franklin continued to pound the ball all night. Once again, the Defense had a great game, only to get caught off guard on a fake punt.Final 42-14
The Rebels are starting to gain momentum as they are looking to run deep into the playoffs.
They face 2 formidable opponents in their final 2 weeks. Both will be Home games so come out and show your Rebel Pride.

Rebels to Play on Thursday

Franklin has gotten a chance to be on t.v. again this week versus Columbia. This couldnt have been a better opportunity, playing a televised game moved up to Thursday , prior to their fall break.
The Rebels are coming off a huge win of 49-0 as the defense recorded another shutout of the Clarksville NE team. We had two interceptions returned back for 6 points in the 4th. One by Daniel Zegal and the other from Hunter Nall..congrats guys they pumped up the crowd on the Franklin side.
Franklin needs to carry this momentum for the remainder of the season!!!

Go Rebs!

Looking for an Education?

If you don’t come away from a Franklin Rebels football game feeling like you have just been back to your high school days, then you missed an opportunity.
The atmosphere from the student section, the band, the cheerleaders and of course the math. The math as in how you learn about grams and kilos (Grahams and Keylos), the adding of yards per play, subtracting of yards being driven back , science as in Newton’s First Law of motion (an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.)And finally the multiplication of how many players doing good things on the field to push for a victory.
Franklin is gaining momentum. You hear about how dominating the Defense is as equally as the Offense. Give the credit to Coach Clayton and his staff. We all know what its like to have one without the other. The seniors have great leadership qualities. The formula is in place for now.
How far can Franklin go? That depends on each and every player that is in uniform. From the Varsity going out and mentally and physically beating their opponent on every play on every down, to the junior varsity doing their best during the week to prepare their teammates for the upcoming game, so they can be ready, as well, when their number is called. Having unconditional fan support even if the game doesn’t seem to be going our way. Example McCallie. These boys need to hear support as well as experience it.
Congratulations Franklin 5-0. This is where the season begins!!

Rebels Roll over the Raptors 27-0

Freshman impressive

Franklin's Varsity isnt the only team winning. Take a look at this years freshman team. They have good instincts and presence around the ball.
Also with a winning record, Coach Dunford has his sites set on building the future Varsity at Franklin High.
Check Franklins website and come out to support this great group of boys as they continue to win.

Go Rebs!

Congrats to JV and Freshman Rebels

Congratulations need to go out to the future Varsity players.
Both the Junior Varsity and the Freshman team both came out with exciting wins over Williamson County rival, Independence.Making this a sweep for all three.
These boys played hard and its very exciting knowing that these boys are our future.
Congratulations to the coaches for their game plan, and to the players for going out and executing them.
Go Rebels!

Pics from Indy Win

Lights Out !

“The Eagle has landed” …and with great force, compliments of Franklin’s Defense.
Coach Webb’s group was on a mission, and it was plain to see from the lights at Independence.
Once again, the varsity defense has held opponents to 6 points or less over their last 3 games.
Heckman and company couldn’t get past the speed and pursuit of a solid defense, who held the Eagles scoreless until the 4th quarter. The pressure to the Eagles quarterback was relentless. It would be impossible to say that one player stood out, when all you saw was a sea of white jerseys swarming to the ball all night long.
It was a short night for Franklin’s offense as far as number of plays, but they continued to rack up their minimum of 35 points per game. Between Graham’s golden arm and his fab five offensive line, the chunks of yards continues to grow. Bring in the Rebels dynamic running backs, a corps of fantastic receivers and you suddenly become a balanced attack.
The Franklin Rebels are alone in their division at 5-0.

Franklin has waited patiently for this weeks Independence game

Some Seniors have marked this week on their calendars, and some just etched in the back of their mind.
Merely 10 months ago on a very very cold night down the road, to "That" stadium by 840.
"That" stadium is where the Red Hot Rebels were primed and ready for a showdown.
If you were there at the start of the game, you saw many Franklin fans worried and concerned as the Eagles came out of the gates. There were dropped passes, missed blocks, missed tackles, and a mobile quarterback by the name of Heckman.
His moves were quick and loose. He dodged and darted over and over again. He was a sophomore quarterback who wanted to make a name for himself. The stands got extremely silent.
If you were there, maybe you heard it. A clap, then 1o more, and more...the Rebels were looking in the stands for support. The crowd started yelling, and clapping...the defense made a stand. They dug their cleats in deep, they opened their hands and arms wider, they wrapped up on their tackles and they held off the yards of Pettigrew, and Heckman. It fueled the fire of the offense; it was their turn.
Franklin came to life and started doing what they know best...Rebel Football, For it was all Franklin from here on out, They had the momentum .The stands on the Indy side turned quiet and worried....
We all know the conclusion of this game.We all knew who shouldve WON that game. We missed an opportunity.
Enter 2008. Franklin stands tall at 4-0. The Offense is averaging 34 points a game. The defense has had 2 games where the opponent has scored 6 points or less. They have had enough of people questioning the overall toughness of the program. These Seniors are leaders, they have played together for years, they count on each other.
This Friday night will be the first return to "That" stadium and "That "crowd.
We cannot miss this opportunity. We are Franklin. We play Rebel Football. We must not only beat this Eagle team at their own nest, we need to beat them EVERY SINGLE PLAY.
We will have the loudest fans.
JUST DO IT !

Franklin Rolls over McGavock 42-6

The Rebels came out tonight with an agenda, and they didn’t look back. After stalling on their first possession, it was all the motivation that they needed.
Franklin’s defense came up big and did what they needed to do…keep their offense on the field.
Franklin’s offense has averaged 34 points a game and shows no sign of slowing down. After trailing a talented McCallie team in week two, this offense shifted gears and scored 26 points in the fourth quarter, demonstrating good leadership and great conditioning.
Besides the one two punch of Running Backs Keylo Lee and Alex Ford, the offensive line has just been dominate. They are fine tuned and open up holes to avg 6-8 yards a play. When asked, they protect the General of this offense, Graham Nichols, who has been nothing less than spectacular.
If their offense has not been enough, in comes their defense. They are just gritty. Don’t try to run the ball up the middle because Franklin boasts a strong defensive line. What the defensive line doesn’t eat up, the linebackers will come in and finish. The defense is really starting to gel and it couldn’t be at a better time ,with rivals Independence and Brentwood coming up on the schedule.
Franklin strengthens to 4-0.

Rebels on a "Mission"

With the oncoming of hurricane season threatening all the coastal states, many have been evacuating inland to avoid disaster.
Hurricane Gustavo on a bee line towards Louisiana, the Nashville area Red Cross set up several stations throughout the Nashville area to shelter the folks as they evacuated their homes.
The Williamson County Recreation center on Hillsboro Rd., was the closest to our Franklin area, in which they shut down their business, to accommodate many families from Louisiana.
Learning of the local families, and seeing many of them at the local Mapco hang out, it wasn’t long before the boys from Franklins football team wanted to help out.
Last Thursday, after the team’s pre game dinner, on the eve of their first regional football game against Ravenwood, many players volunteered to stay later to help distribute snacks, coloring books and crayons to all the children that were at the rec center.
They loaded their vehicles and surprised the temporary residences at the shelter.
Many families were grateful, and children smiled as the football players brought in the gifts.
Thank you rebels for your outstanding community service and thoughtfulness at such an uncertain time. Its times like this when you reach out to the less fortunate and really makes you proud.
We are extremely blessed to have such fine young men in our lives.

Thanks again, Go Rebs !

Franklin Shuts Out Ravenwood! 27-0

Franklin Vs. Ravenwood

On a wet and rainy night, all records are tossed out the window and it comes down to who can control the ball and dig it out in the trenches. That’s exactly what Franklin did.

Ravenwood won the toss and after a couple first downs , a bad snap ,that went over quarterback ,Alex Williams’ head, Franklin’s defense pulled on the reigns and forced the Raptors to punt.
Franklin on their own 25 put their Offense to work. After the the Offensive line cleared holes for rb’s keylo lee and Alex ford, QB Graham Nichols hit wr Jamaul Starnes over the middle in traffic, for a huge gain. The Rebels continued to pound the ball for an Alex Ford Touchdown. With a wide rt kick, Franklin went up 6 to 0.
Ravenwood started out on their own 30.On a third and long play with 2:13 left in the quarter, Ravenwood standout Bo Gilroy was up-ended by the Rebels stingy defense and didn’t return for the night.
The rebels never looked back. Franklin pounded out the first downs with consistency and long drives. On a game that was featuring Coach Clayton’s powerful offense, it was the Defense that took charge of a very potent Ravenwood opponent. Key sacks by Defensive ends Hunter Howard and Cole Nathan, forced the Ravens to try and run to the middle, which was “no mans land” tonite. The raptors had 4 attempts to score within the rebels 10 yd line and with 4th and goal, the defense made a stand.
Lee and Ford scored again to bring the final to Franklin 27 Ravenwood 0
It was a total team effort by Franklin in a game that wasn’t in the best of conditions.
